נירוסטה היא סגסוגת פלדה עם תכולת כרום מינימלית של 10.5% במסה. פלדת אל-חלד משמשת כאשר הן תכונות הפלדה והן עמידות בפני קורוזיה נדרשים. לכן, כמו סגסוגות פלדה יצוקה אחרות, פלדת אל-חלד היא חומר בשימוש נרחב לייצור יציקות.
